PALM BAY, Fla., April 12, 2016 -- Surveys of groundwater, water quality and fish will help St. Johns River Water Management District scientists better understand the pollution sources delivered to the Indian River Lagoon through groundwater and tributaries. The surveys will also show how these nutrients are cycled into algal blooms.

Plans for the new cistern coincide with Water Conservation Month, an annual observance each April to celebrate conservation and increase awareness about the need to reduce water use.

The wildlife drive and surrounding property within the St. Johns River Water Management District's Emeralda Marsh Conservation Area in Lake County will remain closed to motorized and non-motorized traffic throughout the 2016 season.

PALM BAY, Fla., April 19, 2016 -- A new sediment trap, or "baffle box," funded through the St. Johns River Water Management District's Cost-Share Funding Program will capture hundreds of pounds of pollutants annually before they reach the Eau Gallie River, a tributary of the Indian River Lagoon, helping to improve water quality in the waterways.

PALATKA, Fla., April 21, 2016 -- The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 170-acre prescribed burn today at the Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve in Alachua County. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuel loads and maintain fire-dependent natural communities.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., April 25, 2016 -- The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 262-acre prescribed burn today at the Julington-Durbin Preserve in Duval County. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuels and promote native vegetation, such as wiregrass.

PALATKA, Fla., April 26, 2016 -- About 700 homes in St. Augustine are receiving new automatic water metering technology allowing the city and homeowners to track their water conservation efforts through real-time data collection and identify leaks more quickly. The pilot project is a cost-share partnership between the St. Johns River Water Management District and the city of St. Augustine.

MAITLAND, Fla., April 28, 2016 -- One year after the St. Johns River Water Management District opened the Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, about 50,000 visitors have experienced the one-way, 11-mile drive that traverses a network of wetlands, levees and canals, providing a variety of wildlife viewing opportunities.

PALATKA, Fla., April 29, 2016 -- After two years of planning and construction, reclaimed water lines connecting the reuse distribution systems of DeLand, Deltona, Orange City and Volusia County are complete. The $6 million cost-share project was funded through the St. Johns River Water Management District and a 2013 state legislative appropriation in partnership with the West Volusia Water Suppliers, made up of Volusia County local governments.
