The District Governing Board will hold its regular monthly meeting July 13 at its Palatka headquarters.

The District will close its public lands and all offices north of I-4 on Wednesday in anticipation of effects from Tropical Storm Elsa.

District headquarters in Palatka, service centers in Jacksonville and Maitland and its field stations will reopen at 8 a.m., Thursday, July 9, in the wake of Tropical Storm Elsa.

The District is reopening its public lands Thursday at noon, having completed safety assessments following Tropical Storm Elsa’s effects in north and east-central Florida.

The District is conducting three public workshops to discuss the draft Central Springs/East Coast Regional Water Supply Plan and to take public comment.

In a word, June was wet — and in some areas, extremely wet. The western edge of the District recorded more than 10 inches of rain in June.

The District’s Governing Board approved a tentative budget Tuesday that maintains the current millage rate for taxpayers.

On Tuesday, the District’s Governing Board recognized July 2021 as Lakes Appreciation Month, joining the North American Lake Management Society (NALMS) and groups around the country in the annual proclamation to raise awareness of lakes’ importance and benefits.

Annual water use reporting conducted by the District shows that 2020 total water use was 1% lower than the five-year average but 4% higher than 2019.

The District is launching a project to mechanically harvest and remove mats of floating vegetation —and their associated nutrients — from waters within the Orange Creek Restoration Area.

The District is accepting public comment on the draft Central Springs/East Coast Regional Water Supply Plan through Aug. 27.

The District Governing Board will hold its regular monthly meeting Aug. 10 at its Palatka headquarters. The public is invited to attend and to offer in-person comment on Board agenda items. A livestream will also be available for members of the public to observe the meeting online.

The District is launching a pilot project this week to harvest and remove algae, suspended solids and associated nutrients from Lake Jesup’s waters. The project’s data will help the District determine the potential for a full-scale system to help achieve state water quality standards established for Lake Jesup.
