JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 24, 2016 -- The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 39-acre prescribed burn today at the Longleaf Flatwoods Reserve, west of County Road 235, in Alachua County. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuel loads and maintain fire-dependent natural communities.

More than 50 community volunteers helped plant 1,000 bald cypress trees at the St. Johns River Water Management District’s Lake Apopka North Shore the weekend of June 25. Cherry Lake Tree Farm in Groveland worked with local nonprofit Keep Lake Beautiful to donate the trees and help raise awareness about the importance of the area’s natural systems. [June 27, 2016]

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., June 28, 2016 -- The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting a 292-acre prescribed burn today at the Hatchet Creek Tract of the Newnans Lake Conservation Area in Alachua County, approximately a mile north of State Road 26 and west of Hatchet Creek. The purpose of the burn is to reduce hazardous fuel loads and maintain fire-dependent natural communities.
