Public workshop March 16 on draft Silver Springs MFLs and Prevention Strategy

PALATKA, Fla., March 10, 2017 — The St. Johns River Water Management District is holding a public workshop to provide information and receive public comments on proposed minimum flows and a proposed prevention strategy for Silver Springs in Marion County.

The St. Johns River Water Management District is currently working to establish minimum flows and levels (MFLs) for Silver Springs, a first-magnitude spring in Marion County and one of several Outstanding Florida Springs (OFS). These priority OFS springs are required by state law to have MFLs in place by July 1, 2017. MFLs set the limit of available water beyond which further water withdrawals would be significantly harmful to a water body.
