Update: Wildfire reported on two district properties

MAITLAND, Fla., March 8, 2017 — Wildfires were reported on two St. Johns River Water Management District properties.

 Update as of March 8 at 9:30 p.m.:

The district is responding to wildfire reported on the Hal Scott Regional Preserve and Park in Orange County and on the Seminole Ranch Conservation Area (at the convergence of Orange, Brevard, Volusia and Seminole counties).

 The fire at Hal Scott Regional Preserve and Park is currently reported to be 85 acres in size and 95 percent contained.

 Two additional wildfires at Seminole Ranch Conservation Area are located in the marsh, between the braided channels of the river and are expected to go out tonight.

 District staff are working with staff from the Florida Forest Service to contain and control the fires.

 To date, rainfall trends for 2017 have been below average with future predictions for similar trends, creating conditions favorable for wildfire.
