Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive closing today in response to COVID-19

Popular drive to remain closed until further notice

MAITLAND, Fla., March 13, 2020 — The St. Johns River Water Management District’s Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive will be closed as a precaution this evening and will remain closed until further notice in response to concerns about the spread of the novel coronavirus commonly referred to as COVID-19.

The decision to close the drive is in line with the State of Florida’s efforts to lessen transmission of the virus. The popular Lake Apopka Wildlife Drive, which is open on weekends and federal holidays, attracts thousands of visitors each month, with more than 16,000 visitors in February alone.

Other district lands currently remain open to the public, as they are not as prone to large group gatherings. Any additional recreational closures will be shared online and on social media.
