Moss Bluff reopens to navigational access following repairs
MAITLAND, Fla., Oct. 19, 2018 — The Moss Bluff Lock has reopened to boat traffic following maintenance and repair work. The St. Johns River Water Management District operates three locks and dams in its 18-county service area to help manage lake levels.
The closure was necessary to allow crews to replace the slide-gates which control water level within the lock, as well as complete other maintenance. County boat ramps located upstream and downstream of Moss Bluff remain open and available for use.
Located in Marion County on the edge of the Ocala National Forest, the Moss Bluff Lock and Dam was reconstructed in 1968 by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to assist with flood control as well as the passage of boats along the Ocklawaha River.
