April is Water Conservation Month
— Spring into water savings —
PALATKA, Fla., March 13, 2018 — The St. Johns River Water Management District’s Governing Board on Tuesday approved a proclamation designating April as Water Conservation Month to encourage awareness about the importance of water conservation.
“Water conservation is something we can all participate in without having to drastically altering our habits,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. “The district has been committed to water conservation for many years through its educational programs, watering rules and Consumptive Use Permitting program. Water Conservation Month is one more way we can raise awareness about this important topic.”
March 20 is the first day of spring, and many Floridians will begin turning their attention to sprucing up their landscapes now that the dormant winter months are behind us. The district offers a variety of online resources at www.sjrwmd.com/water-conservation, including a searchable waterwise planting guide, tips for saving water indoors and outdoors a home watering use survey, and details on the district’s watering restrictions, which are designed to ensure the efficient use of water for landscape irrigation. The restrictions allow enough water to maintain healthy landscapes year-round.
