District spearheads collaborative efforts for regional water management and resiliency

St. Johns River Water Management District Chief Resilience Officer Tom Frick organized the Central Florida Resilience Coordination meeting.

PALATKA, Fla., Jan. 19, 2024 — The St. Johns River Water Management District recently held a coordination meeting, inviting representatives from city, county and state agencies to share ideas on regional water management and local resiliency efforts. Building on the momentum of the hurricane coordination meeting held last June to address flooding issues identified post-Hurricane Ian when the entire region experienced historic amounts of rainfall.

The meeting focused on coordination efforts between local entities, ongoing projects, flood modeling, and funding opportunities.

“The goals of the meeting were to continue building relationships with our local and regional partners, sharing challenges and identifying resources to collectively address common issues,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Mike Register. “The collaborative spirit exhibited in this meeting reflects a commitment to proactive water management, ensuring the resilience of communities in the face of evolving environmental challenges”.

Partners will meet again in June to discuss emergency preparedness and response and update communication strategies to help ensure consistency in messaging as hurricane season begins.
