District staff elected to serve on national board
MAITLAND, Fla., Nov. 9, 2017 — Dr. Erich Marzolf with the St. Johns River Water Management District was recently elected to serve on the North American Lake Management Society Board of Directors.
“We are proud to lend our expertise to an organization that shares our passion for protecting our natural resources,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. “By joining the board, Dr. Marzolf is in good company and joins other citizens, scientists, professionals and experts who desire to elevate conversations about our lakes and watersheds.”
In the role of Region Four Director, which spans Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee and Mississippi, Marzolf will help the nonprofit organization meet its goal of forging partnerships that foster the management and protection of lakes and reservoirs. Marzolf previously served on the Board of the Florida Lake Management Society for eight years.
Marzolf began working with the district in 1994. He is currently the Director of the Division of Water and Land Resources where he manages data collection and restoration activities on lakes, rivers, wetlands, springs and estuaries and the 730,000 acres of land owned by the District. He has a Ph.D. in Ecology from the University of California Davis and was a post-doctoral scientist at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
