Media advisory — Aerial herbicide treatment at Lake Apopka North Shore

The St. Johns River Water Management District is conducting aerial herbicide treatments at several locations within its Lake Apopka North Shore. District staff are stationed to guide visitors in treatment areas adjacent to trails.

The district is charged with controlling nuisance upland and aquatic vegetation on thousands of acres of district-owned properties. Where invasive, nonnative plants invade Florida’s forests and wetlands, they often choke out native plant species and can overrun a water body and block water control structures. To ensure the safety and welfare of the public, wildlife and environment, a determination is made for each site and plant species as to which approved herbicide will be used.
