Multi-use recreational trail agreement receives board approval

PALATKA, Fla., July 10, 2019 — The St. Johns River Water Management District’s Governing Board approved a pair of agreements for construction of a 2.78-mile paved, multi-use trail in Orange and Lake counties.

“As we work to protect and improve Florida’s waterways and wetlands, we also want to ensure the public has the chance to explore our unique lands,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. “This agreement will help residents connect with the diverse natural systems that surround their communities.”

The agreement provides the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) with the ability to design and construct the trail, which would cross properties the district co-owns with Orange and Lake counties.

The proposed multi-use trail is located near the Central Florida Beltway, from County Road 435 to State Road 46, and will ultimately tie into the Wekiva Parkway Trail System, which will be about 10 miles long and provide multiple recreational opportunities when complete.
