Fast-tracked permit ensures timely kick-off at Showalter Field
MAITLAND, Fla., Aug. 17, 2016 — With the start of high school football fast approaching, a needed permit for construction work at Showalter Field in Winter Park has been expedited for approval by the St. Johns River Water Management District.
“Our regulatory staff strives for accuracy as we work to provide effective solutions that benefit our water resources,” said St. Johns River Water Management District Executive Director Dr. Ann Shortelle. “There are instances when we can accelerate the process without reducing the quality of permitting reviews while helping permit applicants move projects along quickly. We are happy to work with community partners at all stages of the process.”
A permit that addresses drainage was necessary as the city of Winter Park converts the field from natural grass to artificial turf. The recreation field frequently hosts players from Winter Park High School, Rollins College and other area schools.
Anyone proposing construction of new facilities, including governmental agencies, developers building new residential or commercial areas, or anyone who wants to fill in wetlands must have the required environmental resource permit.
